BIOGRAPHIES - Sarah Michelle Gellar

Sarah Michelle Gellar was born on April 14th, 1977.  Sarah's last name is really pronounced Gell-air, not Gellar.  Her last name is commonly mispronounced so much that the actress finds herself saying Gellar too.

She stared acting at the very young age of 5, and her first acting job was a commercial for Burger King.  She couldn't even pronounce burger, she pronounced bugah, but B.K. sent her for speech lessons and fixed everything up.

Sarah graduated high school early, at seventeen years old. Before that she acted on a soap opera called All My Children, as Kendal Hart, and won an Emmy in her last year of the show, in 1995.  After she left the show, she did several TV show guest spots and TV movies, including A Woman Called Jackie, where she played young Jackie Kennedy, and Swiss Family Robinson in 1997.

Then her big, well, small screen debut came; she was cast as Buffy Summers in the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, based loosely off of the 1992 movie. She was originally going to be cast as Cordelia Chase, but seventeen screen tests later she was given the part of Buffy. Her role as Buffy opened up new opportunities for movies, and she took parts in two recent horror movies. Firstly, she was cast as Helen Shivers in I Know What You Did Last Summer, which came out in theaters in October 17th, 1997, and which is now out on video. Next she did Scream 2 where she was cast as the popular girl, Cici, which came out in theaters on December 12th of 1997, and is also out on video.

Sarah is in the movie Cruel Intentions, as Katherine with her co-star, Ryan Phillippe, from I Know What You Did Last Summer, which is now out on video and DVD.  Sarah was also in Simply Irresistible (also on video), with Sean Patrick Flannery, a romantic/comedy which flopped after only a few weeks in the theaters.  Sarah then had a cameo in She's All That, with no lines just a kick @$$ face expression. =)

Sarah has three new movie roles coming up.  One of the movies is called Harvard Man, where she plays one of the two female leads.  She portrays Cindy Bandolini, a Mafia princess, in this movie.  Here is a short synopsis of the movie:  A Harvard philosophy major and basketball star borrows $50,000 from his girlfriend (a Mafia princess) to rebuild his family's home, destroyed by a tornado.  Later, his girlfriend insists he must fix a basketball game for the money, and the student finds himself trapped between the mob and the FBI - all the while tripping psychedelically on LSD. (synopsis courtesy of Fandom: Buffy - Raven's Realm)  This movie was s filmed in June 2000, in Boston and Toronto. Gellar's 2nd movie, The It Girl,  is described as: A mysterious young woman moves to New York, manages to endear herself to upper-crust society and falls in love with its most eligible bachelor, by IMDB.  It has been recently announced that Sarah will portray Daphne Blake in the real -life Scooby Doo movie also starring her real-life beau Freddy Prinze Jr. as Freddy Jones.  All three of these movies are scheduled to be released sometime in 2001.

Sarah Michelle has hosted Saturday Night Live twice and has had guest appearances on several shows, including Sarah Jessica Parker's hit show Sex and the City.  Ms. Gellar is also rumoured to appear on the new show, Gross Point, sometime in the near furture.

Sarah Michelle will still continue to act as Buffy at least until the end of Season 5, which will air in 2000/2001.  She has a 7 year contract with the WB.  I heard that after Buffy's contract is finished with the WB  it is going up for auction for the last two seasons.  The WB may not be able to bid high enough and Buffy may be in the clutching hands of Fox.
